Pyrite means “fools gold†and can be linked both to the stainless steel polished surface and also to the fact that Louise has taken an item that does not really have a design value in itself – the top of a cistern – and given it a new function and a new value . “I wanted something in the exhibition as a reminder of mankind’s presence in nature. The shape comes from the top of the cisterns that are industrially manufactured near where I grew up. I think my love for industrial details is linked to the metal objects found on the farm – there is often a simplicity and honesty in them.â€
