The idea for the project came from designer Louise Hederström and Linus Davidsson at Swedese. Their reflections on the furniture industry and how to work more with waste and recycled materials led them to Skanska’s Hyllie Terrace in Malmö, an office building with the ambition to be climate-neutral in both large and small ways. When they reached out, Skanska was immediately interested, and the Hyllie Stool is the result of this collaboration.
The stool was specially designed for the Hyllie Terrace atrium, transforming construction waste into furniture. Beams, plywood, and discarded leather formed the foundation for both the designer and the manufacturer. The design echoes its original materials: beams of Swedish pine support the seat, which is filled with leftover lambskin from Swedese’s production, while the leather is sourced from Elmo Leather.
Hyllie Terrace completed in 2023, is Skanska’s first climate-neutral project and is one of the few projects in Sweden that is part of the Sweden Green Building Councils.
