Pomme de terre

Louise Hederström

In the southern Sweden region of Skåne, potatoes are referred to as “päror” meaning earth pears, and the French translation “pomme de terre” literally means “apples of the earth”. Potatoes could also be considered nuggets of gold from the earth. This was the inspiration behind a collection of candlesticks for Stockholm’s Gallery Pascale. The unique soft, organic forms evoke memories of digging deep into the soil in search of each edible treasure. The full basket would be transformed into a wholesome dinner.

Each candlestick was created from the cast of a King Edward potato – each one hand picked by the designer – and produced by Rosengrens foundry in Limhamn.
