Pyrite means “fools gold” and can be linked both to the stainless steel polished surface and also to the fact that Louise has taken an item that does not really have a design value in itself – the top of a cistern – and given it a new function and a new value . “I wanted something in the exhibition as a reminder of mankind’s presence in nature. The shape comes from the top of the cisterns that are industrially manufactured near where I grew up. I think my love for industrial details is linked to the metal objects found on the farm – there is often a simplicity and honesty in them.”
Pyrite was specially designed for the Understory exhibition at Designgalleriet in Stockholm 6-23 February 2018
